In April we recognize the contribution made to the world via Poetry. I hope you enjoy this poem!
WILD GOOSE
‘Tis writ you can’t go home again,
Return unchanged to changelessness–
The same blue sky and rolling plain,
Familiar faces, same address.
The Mind’s mirage of home sweet home
Is misted by life’s shifting dust;
Corrodes and crumbles–dying Rome–
To smoldering ashes, moldering rust.
And, Oh! how counterfeit the smile;
The cool embrace, averted eyes!
The hot tears spring, the bitter bile,
Faced with fraternity’s demise.
Unmindful, ceaseless life moves on.
Connections shift and re-ally.
Old loves, untended fields, are gone,
Once open doors have closed, but I
Undaunted by my silent room,
Unbowed by faded friendship’s dying,
I steer a course from dawn to gloom–
A single wild goose flying.
